Experience the splendor of Greek culture and history beginning in the capital of Athens. Named after Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, Athens can trace its history back centuries and is considered the birthplace of Western civilization. A large, sprawling city with no building higher than the ever imposing Parthenon still dominates the landscape. Breathtaking landmarks from the 5th century BC and a fascinating mix of Neo-classical, Byzantine, Ottoman, Ancient and Modern architecture dot the landscape creating a melting pot of sights and sounds.
You will set sail through the crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean on a privately chartered yacht, meandering through the picturesque, sheltered waters of the quintessentially classic islands of the Saronic Gulf, Poros & Hydra. Traditional stone mansions, narrow cobblestoned streets, secluded squares and a rich maritime history have been preserved in this region and offer a journey through the passage of time long gone in today’s world.
You’ll explore one of the most beautiful towns in the area of Argolis in eastern Peloponnese. Nafplio was the first capital of the newly born Greek state between 1823 and 1834. Greek mythology abounds here as the town was said to be founded by the son of the god Poseidon and the daughter of Danaus Anymone. Greek history is prevalent throughout the area, from the ever imposing Venetian ruins of Palamidi Castle proudly overlooking the town to traces of the Greek Revolution and the famous war hero Theodore Kolokotronis.
Visit the UNESCO listed ruins of Mycenae & Asklepion — protector of human health and personal happiness, also known as Epidaurus. Asklepion gained fame throughout the world for its unique healing practices as it was undoubtedly the greatest of the theurgical sites in antiquity. It is said that more than 200 healing medical centres worked under Asklepieion’s authorization throughout the Eastern Mediterranean area.
Venture into the relatively unknown region of Arcadia with its remarkably varied natural landscapes of undiscovered beauty, time forgotten villages, mythological & archaeological historic locations. You’ll explore hidden monasteries and corners of this region rarely visited. More archaeological wonders abound as you visit the birthplace of the Olympic Games in Olympia and the imposing Temple of Zeus.

This morning you set sail on the crystal blue Mediterranean waters for a full day cruise on a privately chartered sailing vessel. Enjoy a full day exploring the Saronic Gulf.

This morning enjoy a walking tour of the seaside town of Nafplio filled with Venetian houses and neoclassical architecture.
After lunch, you’ll continue to Epidaurus, the most famous healing centre of Ancient Greece. You’ll visit Mycenae, the fortified city founded by Perseus built 1000 years before the Parthenon.
Head back to Nafplio for dinner by the seaside promenade.

Today’s journey across the Argolic plain to Diakopto, a small town at the lower end of Vouraikos Gorge. Board the ‘rack and pinion’ Odontotos Railway passing through tunnels and many bridges spanning over the Vouraikos River.
You’ll arrive at the picturesque town of Kalavryta where you’ll enjoy lunch and a walking tour learning all about the town’s dark past. Travel through the picturesque pine-clad region and arrive to the quaint town of Vytina in central Arcadia, your home for the next two nights. Conference Session 3 will take place this afternoon.

Prepare yourself for a day of undiscovered treasures. You’ll head out to explore the hidden gems of the undiscovered Arcadia region. Visit the hilltop towns of Dimitsana & Stemnitsa — home to a Silver & Goldsmith School.
It’s then onto the Louisos Valley, with spectacular scenery and the incredible Prodromos Monastery built precariously into the rock face. You’ll also visit the 10th Century Byzantine Monastery of Philosophou before meandering back through the mountainous countryside to the hotel.
Head out to dinner this evening in the tiny village of Panagia for a night of local fare.

Leave the island life behind today and head back to Greece’s mainland and the region of Epirus.
Enjoy lunch in the Venetian influenced town of Nafpaktos, before a visit to the area’s University Hospital. Arrive in Ioannina, home to ‘the island with no name’ and the infamous ottoman revolutionary Ali Pasha.

After breakfast enjoy a tour of the Meteora Monasteries. These ancient stone buildings sit precariously on top of soaring cliffs and are filled with Byzantine frescoes. Head back to the hotel for lunch and Conference Session 5 & 6.

After breakfast, you’ll explore the city of Limassol with traces of history dating back to the Middle Ages. Then head off to the southwest coast of the island to Paphos.
The area has many sites relating to the goddess Aphrodite, including Kourion and the House of Dionysius with its extraordinary mosaics. You’ll stop at Aphrodite’s Rock, as you head back to Limassol in time for dinner.

This morning you will venture to the centre of the island visiting Nicosia — a city divided in two. Dating back to the Bronze Ages, the city blends its historic past brilliantly, dotted with museums, ancient churches, medieval buildings and surrounded by 16th-century Venetian walls.
Enjoy lunch in the old town. After lunch cross the border on foot to the Turkish side of Cyprus and visit Selimiye Mosque and Buyuk Han. In the late afternoon arrive back at the hotel.

Today it’s all about rural Cyprus, where hospitality is legendary. Go off the beaten tourist path. Drive through traditional villages stuck back in time before going off-road to the medieval bridge Kelefos.
Stop for lunch in Omodos Village before discovering the local wine and the culinary delights of Arkatena bread and Shoushoukos.

Today we cross the border to North Cyprus. After border formalities, you will visit the Venetian walled city of Famagusta.
You’ll explore the ancient city of Salamis and enjoy a local lunch. It’s then onto the St Barnabas Monastery and a stop at sea caves of Ayia Napa before heading back to the hotel.

Amaco is an Accredited Education Provider for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and the Australian College of Rural & Remote Medicine.
Each conference we run includes an education syllabus that assists GP’s, pharmacists and health professionals to improve the quality of care they provide to patients and customers while at the same time providing them the opportunity to travel to and experience new and exciting destinations.
Our conference to Alaska will allow delegates the opportunity to earn CPD points based on the content and time in session. As has been the case with past conferences, we will work closely with participants affiliated with other associations to ensure that they receive maximum recognition for attending the conference.
The content of the education sessions will be relevant to GPs, Medical Specialists, Pharmacists, Dentists, Nurses and other health providers. We encourage all attendees to register for the conference sessions.
The Education Committee for the Greece & Cyprus Conference will be selected in the third or fourth quarter of 2020 with final conference topics to be chosen based on the feedback from our previous conference attendees and with input from the RACGP, ACRRM and Medical Journals. Suitable speakers will be approached based on the topics selected.
Subject to final accreditation, the Greece & Cyprus Conference will include an Accredited Education Activity (formerly Category 1 Activity) affording delegates the opportunity to earn up to 40 points.
ACRRM members can also expect the education program to be accredited and to earn CPD points. RACGP and ACRRM accreditation will be applied for under the triennium 2020 to 2022.
As has been the case in the past, Amaco will work with pharmacy bodies and those affiliated with other associations to ensure that they receive maximum recognition for attending the conference.
